Horizon Europe Unveils Strategic Plan to Address Global Challenges
The second Horizon Europe strategic plan has been unveiled, setting the course for research and innovation funding aimed at tackling some of the world’s most pressing issues. The plan focuses on addressing climate change, pollution, the loss of biodiversity, the digital transition, and the challenges posed by an ageing population. Spanning from fundamental research to breakthrough innovations, the plan aims to drive investment in the green and digital transition, fostering a more resilient, competitive, democratic, and inclusive Europe.
Developed through extensive collaboration with Member States and Associated Countries, the strategic plan incorporates feedback from a large public consultation and an event designed to engage the general public. This inclusive approach ensures that the plan is well-suited to meet current and future challenges. The evidence supporting the strategic plan is derived from thorough strategic plan analysis, providing a robust foundation for its initiatives.
The DEFACTO project, a European initiative dedicated to advancing multiphysic and multiscale modeling tools to improve the understanding of cell material behavior and cell manufacturing processes, stands to benefit significantly from the previous strategic plan. By reducing the time and economic resources required for market uptake of cell innovations, DEFACTO is poised to facilitate the development of new high-capacity and high-voltage Li-ion cell generation 3b batteries. This alignment with Horizon Europe’s goals underscores the importance of targeted research and innovation funding in driving technological advancements and addressing global challenges.
