DEFACTO FINAL CONFERENCE
DEFACTO (Battery DEsign and manuFACTuring Optimization through multiphysic modelling) held its final conference to present its results, milestones, lessons learned, and conclusions after four years of research and development in the framework of li-ion cell materials and transport modelling.
On November 30th, 2023, from 09:00 to 14:00 (CET), the consortium experts involved in the execution of DEFACTO explained the different technical phases such as battery modelling, sensitivity analysis, and optimization; characterization experiments; and prototyping and industrial manufacturing. The main impacts behind the initiative included decreasing the development time and cost for battery cells, reducing the number of experiments for cell design and manufacturing, as well as extending the battery lifetime and reducing environmental impacts caused per battery produced.
The ambition of DEFACTO had been to turbocharge the development of next-generation lithium-ion batteries for the automotive market with a comprehensive open-source modeling tool. This advancement could lead to reduced manufacturing costs, increased electric vehicle range, and enhanced competitiveness in the global electric vehicle and energy storage markets, contributing to Europe’s sustainability and economic growth goals.
